Minecat

Bruce

Whats up guys?!  It's been a few months, but I'm back with some garage made goodies.  My project this time was for a very special someone.  With Valentine's day quickly approaching I decided to make my wife's beloved Minecraft cat "Bruce".  Here's how it went.

It all started with the plans!  I spent a while eyeballing some pixels and got the right dimensions to get started.  Here you can see what I was working with.

Blueprints...

I transferred these plans over to some poplar and got to work cutting everything out.

Pattern

The cat legs needed to have some notches cut out so they could fit onto the body and swing freely.  They were so small that I didn't want to risk sticking it and my fingers close to my band saw blade so I used a little hand saw to do the job.

I think Notch would be proud!  Get it?!  Cause Notch is the name of the guy that made the game!  I'll show myself out...

Legs!

As some of you may know I had an unfortunate accident with my last sander setup.  My wife got me this monster for Christmas and I've been itching to try it out.  I used it to shape the angles of each piece so they fit together nicely.  I'm very happy with it!

New sander!!!

Here's all the parts cut out and ready to be put together.

All them parts

Here's a picture of some awesome hand filing I did.  I took a picture of this for some reason so here it is!

Here's an action shot of some clamps.  I had that piece of wood in the middle to keep the pieces from slipping all over the place when I clamped them.

Clampsssssssss

Drillin' them leg joints!

I'm pretty proud of the tail pieces.  I made the them by cutting and filing the joints by hand.

Here you can see the body(with the drawn on grid for painting later) and the head.  I made the head swivel so he can look at you disapprovingly.

Almost done

Test fit!

I think he likes me.

And here is the final product! I made his legs movable so he can stand or sit.

And that's the short story of how Bruce came to be!  Let me know what you think in the comments and I'll see you guys next time!
